review the descriptions below and see what you may be interested in
doing.
Positions
will be filled in a first come first serve basis with a back up list for
multiple requests.
Just
let us know what you would like to do on the registration form.
Volunteering
Basics:
All
volunteers are responsible for being able to follow directions given to
them by the Race Directors and event Senior Staff.
All
Volunteers will need to bring the following with them to the event:

Comfortable
Folding Chair
-
A
Small cooler as a minimum.
-
Some
basic snacks. (We will feed you lunch and supply you with water and
drinks for the day!)
-
If
you have a FRS/GMRS two way radio and want to bring it, we will be
operating on them during the race. Otherwise we will provide you with
one for the event.

Cell
phone for emergencies or as a backup.
-
Any
special medications for yourself (ie: Epi-Pen) in case of emergencies.
-
Weather/Seasonal appropriate clothing
Volunteers
assigned to various manned checkpoints or "outposts" will be
informed by the race staff as to when they can break down and return to
the start. This will be pre-determined at the Staff and Volunteer meeting.
Overnight volunteers will also be needed.
Volunteers will be camping out in pre-established base camps for the
race and will be monitoring racers as a staffed checkpoint. This area
will require camping gear and warm clothing. If you may be interested
please let us know.
Volunteers
must remember not to give out any advance information on the course or the
event which is not authorized by the Race Director to be given to the
participants.
Also,
be prepared to adjust if needed to additional responsibilities. We want
our volunteer staff to “think on their feet”.
Volunteer
Benefits*:
Each volunteer will receive
a certificate for 50% off of one of our events. (Each certificate is
transferable at 1/2 its value, 25%) you will also be able to combine the
certificates, if you volunteer at two races or more for a max of 100%
entry! In short volunteer at two of our races and race in the third at no
charge!
You
will also receive a race t-shirt or hat for each event you volunteer at
and will be invited to our pre-race and post-race dinners and
activities!

Basic
Job Descriptions:
Manned
Check Points:
Volunteers
will staff selected checkpoints throughout the event. Persons staffing
these positions will have direct interaction with the racers and will be
responsible for checking and recording each racer and their time when they
arrive at the checkpoint, verifying passports (punch cards), checking gear
(when applicable) and rendering assistance to racers if needed. Staff at
these positions will be given specific information on their course area
and will need to review the race rules and mark penalties if needed.
Supervised by Race Directors.
Registration/Timing:
Staff
assigned to registration will assist our staff with racer check in and
registrations. Persons who staff this position will need basic paperwork
skills, able to follow directions and give specific instructions to event
participants, monitor the event timing and record finishers final times.
Supervised by Registration Manager.
Specialty
Job Descriptions:
Photographer
We welcome any photographers to our event.
Pictures are a great way to pass on a great experience. Photographers
who participate in our event must understand the following:
Ozark Extreme will provide Lodging (limited
basis), Friday Dinner, Saturday Lunch, Saturday Dinner and any special
activities to the photographer at no charge.
In exchange all photos taken will be given,
royalty free, to Ozark Extreme Adventure Sports. Credit will be given to
the individual photographer any time the picture is used publicly and
pictures may be "signed" along with "Ouachta Adventure Race 2011".
Data/
Race Tracking:
We will be trying out a race tracking system, which will allow us
to track and report real-time progress of teams to visitors, spectators
and online. This is a new venture and we will need people who can work
computer software such as Microsoft Office Excel and have a basic
understanding of blogs and website publishing. Supervised by Race
Directors.
Event
Safety/Medical:
Staff
in this position will be monitoring racers at remote locations for signs
of medical or physical problems. Staff in this position will stand by at
manned or remote checkpoint as needed. Volunteers for these positions must
have a minimum of a CPR/ Advanced First Aid current certification or
higher. If staff has their own vehicles, ATVs or bicycles they may be used
in this position.

Water
Safety:
Staff
in this position will monitor event participants as they are on the water
sections of the event. This may range from ponds and lakes to creeks and
rivers. Will need the ability to use a throw able rescue device and
perform basic water rescue (assist or pull persons from water). Persons
who have their own boats and wish to utilize them on the water may do so
in this position.
Supervised by Race Director
Radio
Relay: Staff
will setup relay radio at a pre-determined location for the monitoring and
relaying of communications during the race. Persons in this position
will monitor our radio traffic and assist with radio traffic when staff to
staff communications cannot be established. This position will also
coordinate emergency operations and will coordinate additional radios
(such as fire, police or parks) during the event. Radio experience is not
required, but is always preferred. HAM radio operators are welcome to be a
part of our event. We will train people for this position and have the
needed equipment. This is a stationary position which is required to be
staffed two hours before the event and one hour after the event.
